Providing Temporary Classroom Space During Seismic Upgrades and Additions

Crofton House complex was designed for installation on a tennis court for use over a few years to allow for seismic upgrading and the construction of an addition to the existing school. The team was working under some tight site constraints as well.

The complex consists of 17 buildings. Site-installed connecting corridors allow access to all buildings via covered hallways and staircases. Skylights and corridor roof venting provides both natural light and ventilation. High efficiency wall-mounted and rooftop self-contained HVAC units optimize zoning control with low noise intrusion that’s important for an enhanced learning environment. This also ensures a maximum flow of fresh air to help maintain indoor air quality levels.

Automatic night set-back thermostats reduce energy use during non-occupied times and the library rooftop HVAC unit incorporates an economizer to utilize “free cooling” when possible for reduced energy consumption.
