This two-storey office and residence for a Coast Guard Search & Rescue station on Vancouver Island was built at the end of a breakwater jetty adjacent to the existing Coast Guard dock and is protected with salt water spray resistant exterior finishes. The building was structurally designed to withstand hurricane-force winds and earthquakes.
Communications and security were a high priority so telephone, data and radio communication requirements are incorporated with a secured reception area and reinforced security room for equipment and munitions storage. The main floor also includes offices, meeting room, change rooms and a locker room with custom-built birch lockers. The second floor accommodations are comprised of four bedrooms featuring quiet, acoustically-insulated HVAC, a common living area, kitchen, washrooms and laundry facilities.
