There were several challenges facing the Britco Construction team in High River. The town had been flooded out that summer and the existing Bank of Montreal (BMO) branch had relocated to a temporary trailer. The staff wanted to be in their permanent facility within a matter of months, which further added to the pressure. External factors also came into play: with the build taking place during winter, the cold weather (which could dip as low as -30 Celsius) affected both the project site and our resources while schedule constraints meant limited access to obtaining required permits.
The year before this project took place, Britco Construction had built a BMO branch office in High Level, Alberta. Because this initial project was so successful, BMO head office asked us to help out with this one, too.
This full-service BMO branch was the first building in a new retail mall location after the floods. It included a large banking hall with private offices, file storage room, ATM, staff lunchroom, washrooms and a vault with safety deposit boxes. A drive-through ATM was also featured. The interior and exterior finishes were designed to provide a strong anchor for the community while blending in with the existing surrounding commercial development.
