There were several challenges facing the Britco team in High River. The town had been flooded out that summer and the existing Bank of Montreal (BMO) branch had relocated to a temporary trailer. The staff wanted to be in their permanent facility within a matter of months, which further added to the pressure. External factors also came into play: with the build taking place during winter, the cold weather (which could dip as low as -30 Celsius) affected both the project site and our resources while schedule constraints meant limited access to obtaining required permits.
The year before this project took place, Britco had built a BMO branch office in High Level, Alberta. Because this initial project was so successful, BMO head office asked us to help out with this one, too.
This full-service BMO branch was the first building in a new retail mall location after the floods. It included a large banking hall with private offices, file storage room, ATM, staff lunchroom, washrooms and a vault with safety deposit boxes. A drive-through ATM was also featured. The interior and exterior finishes were designed to provide a strong anchor for the community while blending in with the existing surrounding commercial development.
